[ Café ] Workshop in Ho Chi Minh

Vietnamese coffee

As you may know that Vietnamese coffee’s reputation is well-known and well-deserved. The French brought coffee to this region in the 19th century and to this day, Vietnam has become the second-largest producer in the world after Brazil.

The Workshop Coffee is a place that does coffee a bit different than what most visitors to Vietnam expect. Instead of the usual Vietnamese coffee, the coffee here is all about the third wave.

The Workshop in Ho Chi Minh is probably one of the best artisan cafes that I’ve been to in Vietnamese.

So if you ever visit Ho Chi Minh, and find yourself surrounded by stalls and stalls of Vietnamese coffee cafes, fret not. My friend stumbled upon this set up that it’s the top 3 café in Asia – The Workshop during my time there, and it was my one of the best coffee experiences.

In first entrance, I saw the two statue, which made me doubt that does there really have a café? However, there were a row of bikes adjacent to a wooden staircase, testament to Ho Chi Minh’s motorbike culture. We had to ascend a rather dark stair alleyway, which reminded me of the times where houses were made of wood.

When my friend said there is a super great café in Ho Chi Minh, it’s also the top three in Asia, which I was super excited to visit it. As I said in the last paragraph, I doubted it when I arrived at the first entrance, Surely, when I climbed to the third floor that I reached their real door, my suspicions disappeared immediately.

At the top floor, the decor of The Workshop was very much culturally different from the basement which we had encountered. Think high ceilings, glass panels framed with black squares and industrial-looking lights. It felt rather Korean’s café to me.

The place is full of young people making the most of the free WiFi, going about their day on their laptops, working and socialising while enjoying their coffee.

I very like this large space that I can stay in here all day long. Especially, the window seat is my favorite, for you can enjoy the sun light and the view of street that totally a great experience.

The Workshop has single tables for those who wish to work alone, large coworking tables for team members to gather, and stools set in front of the coffee bar. There’s also a private space with a projector to accommodate business meetings.

The workshop

Dotted throughout the single large space is a variety of coffee roasting and brewing equipment, both modern and vintage.

There was a myriad of beakers, kettles and filters in all sorts of shapes and sizes. As mentioned before, The Workshop isn’t the place to come for Vietnamese coffee – what you’ll find here are beans sourced from around the world, and locally that I suppose is technically Vietnamese coffee, brewed any number of ways. I would say, it was a coffee-brewer’s heaven. Oh! If you want to take some beans home with you, or purchase some coffee paraphernalia, you can do that too.

Coffee Menu

Coffee is of course the main reason to visit The Workshop, and there’s a lot to like here if coffee is your thing. Flavour profiles are listed for each bean, along with the suggested brewing methods. Staff are well versed in all things coffee, and will happily help you find the right drop for you if you’re unsure where to start.

Food Menu

For those who want food, cafe staples like sandwiches, pastries, burgers, pasta and the like are offered, and there are also non-coffee drinks like tea, juices, and soft drinks.

On this journey, I visited this Workshop twice, one time in the afternoon and the other in the breakfast time. I specially had breakfast in the past and every breakfast was really delicious! Of course, I didn’t order them all. The other two were ordered by friends, but we shared them together, which I tasted them all that I can say they’re really good! I definitely will come to here again when the next time I visit Ho Chi Minh City.

The Workshop is the ultimate place for coffee lovers, boasting a specialty coffee bar with tons of cool tools to craft their drinks. As I mentioned before, it has perfect lighting coming from large windows spewing in natural light and sturdy overhead lights hanging above. The detailed contemporary design of the cafe means that even if you’re not a coffee fanatic, you can still come to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.

The Workshop
